The Slowest Farm Shop #7: Gift from a master...

I was fortunate to get a visit today from Kyle Kinser, a student of Krenov and master woodworker (he’d probably not want me using that title, but I call it like I see it.) Who was in town and as usual, took pity on a semi-hapless amateur such as myself to give me something nobody knew I’ve been wanting forever…. a Stanley 60 1/2 low angle block plane!

Wow! Obviously it needs a little work, but this really made my day!

I’ve taken the legs off my giant spring pole lathe to get ready for winter, and glued up the bed for a slightly smaller one from 4×4 fur, and modified my smacked-together 2×4 poppets to work with the shallower bed height. I’m hoping to have some pics of some spring pole lathe action in the backyard this weekend! I also managed to score some Sorby turning tools on sale at Woodcraft, a 3/4” roughing gouge and a Skew Chisel.

By the way, you can see some of Kyle Kinser’s work for Sawbridge, which he was in town dropping off some of his work for at their page for his work: http://www.sawbridge.com/category.asp?catid=3950 He makes wonderful work!
